SV91 Cryogenic Valve

SV91 Catalog Information (2 pgs./170KB)

Introduction:

Valcor Scientific has provided cryogenic solenoid valves for more than 40 years. The SV91 is a large orifice, gate valve designed for the stringent requirements of high-flow liquid Nitrogen (LN2) applications.

Description:

The SV91 is designed as a 2-way, normally-closed solenoid operated valve with a low mass stainless steel body, heli-arc welded construction to provide a hermetic external seal and structural soundness. No elastomers are used.

As little as 1 psi differential pressure is all that is required to effectively seal the Polyimide disc on the seat.

Standard  SV91 series valves are uni-directional flow. Bi-directional and normally open designs are available in the SV91 series.

Applications:

Cryogenic valves typically deliver liquid cryogens from a dewar to a closed chamber. Often, large orifice valves are used to transfer replenishment volumes of LN2 from larger to smaller vessels. Typical LN2 applications for the SV91 are:

bulletInlet valve to cold chambers
bulletShutoff valves for LN2 dewars
bulletHi-volume LN2 transfer
bulletLN2 dewar bleed off valve

Due to the design features of the SV91, non-cryogenic applications involving straight-through flow, such as a light gate for lasers or photo-electric light devices, are appropriate.

SV95 Cryogenic Valve

Introduction:

With the SV95, Valcor Scientific introduces its third generation line of cryogenic solenoid valves and accessories. The SV95 cryogenic valves accept the challenge of critical flow control needs for liquid nitrogen (LN2) and liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) service. Applications cover a broad spectrum of industries including: analytic chemistry, food processing, bio-medical, micro-electronic and metal treatment.

The SV95 Series offers distinct and unique advantages when used in harsh cryogenic fluid control applications. The SV95 Series has been designed to be quieter, last longer, and to operate more reliably than conventional solenoid valves employed in cryogenic service.

Description:

The SV95 is designed as a 2-way, normally-closed solenoid operated valve with a low mass forged brass body, self-energized Teflon external body seals and stainless steel trim. Especially noteworthy in this design is Valcor's proprietary constant-load Teflon or PFA seal disc that insures bubble-tight shutoff. Designed for fluid temperature down to -345°F, the SV95 Series is suitable for a wide range of low temperature liquids and can also be adapted to your gas control needs.

Because cryogenic applications are both demanding and unforgiving, the SV95 Series was designed to tolerate the non-lubricating aspects of LN2 and LCO2, yet survive repeated, severe on/off cycling.

The Valcor Scientific guided plunger design not only enhances quiet operation and longer life, but also overall valve cycling response for crisp, repeatable temperature set points.

Because valve characteristics are affected by application conditions, including: fluid and environmental temperatures, inlet and outlet pressures, and electrical considerations, we encourage you to contact FPCC with your specific application requirements.

Features:

bulletProprietary seat/seal design for cryogenic fluids down to -345°F and operating pressure to 1000 psig
bulletDirect-acting seal: no minimum operating pressure
bulletNoticeably quieter than other cryogenic valves
bulletBubble-tight shutoff
bulletRobust construction, with a small footprint
bulletCompact low-mass design
bulletMountable in any position as a stand-alone or in manifold configurations
bulletWide selection of port configurations, orifice sizes and electrical options

bulletSize: 3" (AC) or 2-3/4" (DC)  x 1-5/8" x 1-1/2"
bulletWeight: 14.8 oz.
bulletPort Connection: 1/8" or 1/4" NPT female
bulletWetted Materials: 304 and 430F stainless steel, Brass, Teflon and/or PFA

Applications:

Cryogenic valves are most often employed to deliver liquid coolant directly into a closed chamber. Chamber sizes can vary from small 10cc quartz vessels for cryo-focusing in gas chromatography, to large cargo trailers employed in food transportation. The SV95 is well suited to the critical control needs of LN2 and LCO2 service in the analytic chemistry, food processing and bio-medical industries.

Other common uses for the SV95 to deliver LN2 or LCO2 coolant include:

bulletTest chambers for micro-electronics fabrication
bulletBackup systems for biologic freezers
bulletEnvironmental chambers
bulletGas chromatography ovens
bulletFreezing human tissue for preservation
bulletMetal treatment
